I am a qualified and experienced counsellor, working in a successful private practice in Southville Bristol BS3 and Keynsham BS31. My therapeutic focus is on helping adults being challenged by stress, anxiety, relationship issues, depression, bereavement, loss or grief. The aim of our sessions is to help you have a better understanding of yourself, which in turn will help you deal with the feelings that are encroaching on your current life.
Therapy is a joint enterprise. I see the role of the counsellor as that of a confidential and compassionate collaborator, supporting you towards solutions that are not imposed by me, but come from within you.
As an integrative counsellor I use a number of approaches depending on what seems appropriate for you and your particular issues. I work from what’s known as a relational approach. This means I draw on the dynamics which happen within the therapeutic relationship between you as a client, and me as a therapist, as a means to better understanding the relationships in your life. By understanding more about yourself, and increasing your self-awareness within a supportive and confidential therapeutic relationship, you may gain fresh insights into your life and patterns of behaviour. This will offer you the opportunity to see your concerns in a different light, and perhaps reveal to you new ways of coping.
My experience includes working with adults with a broad diversity of ages and backgrounds in the NHS sector and in private practice. I have worked with a range of issues, from low self-esteem, early traumas, panic attacks, career-related stress and relationship difficulties to anxiety, parental issues and suicidal thoughts. I have supported adult clients with early separation issues including boarding school experiences and traumas. I have worked with many senior clients facing retirement, loneliness and ageism.
I have experience in bereavement and loss and can help with what can be a very difficult time in your life.
